9:30 am opening ceremony • 10 am - 5k begins Alternate 1 & 2 Mile Walk/Run Routes Available
Walk/Run registration begins August 1st
CVBCA has sponsored an Annual 5K Walk/Run since 1997. It is an event that our community looks forward to every year. Our aim is to promote public awareness of breast cancer and to come together as a community to show our love and support! This event has become a family tradition for many; a time to honor or remember their own “Pink Warriors”.
The 5K begins at 10:00 AM, but you will want to arrive early (by 9:30) for our Opening Ceremony. First, we encourage all the walkers and runners to spend a few minutes “warming up” to some lively musical selections. The “Pink Warriors” in the crowd are then invited to come forward for a special time of honor and prayer, led by our CVBCA chaplain. It is absolutely beautiful to see all the courageous smiles on the faces of these women. We also pause to remember, in a moment of silence, those who lost their battle with this disease. And of course, we always end our prayer, asking for a CURE!
When it is time for the 5K to begin, the serious runners line up at the front of the crowd, followed by the walkers, those pushing baby strollers and those in wheelchairs. Friendly dogs are welcome, but owners are responsible for cleaning up any mess.
The 5K (3.1 miles) course is mostly flat and winds through the north end of Chambersburg back to the starting line (the alley beside the Towers on Main St.). At the end of the 5K we have water, cookies, fruit and for the past few years, It is a great time to catch up with old friends and maybe meet someone knew.
And we always have Pink Ribbon merchandise for sale, along with the new CVBCA t-shirt for the year. Registrations are accepted the morning of the 5K, but your advance registration helps us plan better for the Event! Look for it online this summer. We hope to see you!
